Circuit Court Judge Edward H. Merrigan
2 Star Major General Merrigan has been a Judge in Broward County, Florida since 2009, where he continues to preside over a felony criminal trial division. Adding to his many accomplishments, Major General is also a founder and the presiding judge of the Broward County Veterans Court since 2012.
Major General Merrigan has many academic accolades including a Juris Doctorate from Samford University, Cumberland School of Law and a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. His military achievements include his role as the Battalion Executive Officer of the 478th Civil Affairs Battalion (FID/UW). He deployed to Iraq in this role to participate in Operation Iraqi Freedom II. Major General Merrigan received numerous medals, including the Iraq Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
We welcome Major General Merrigan to our program. We thank him for his outstanding service to our country and for his extraordinary efforts to help veterans while continuing his own distinguished military service, and for his success in serving the public through his judicial office.

Together, they will share their insights on how our veterans are assisted in court as many deal with issues which might be directly related to or resulting from their active duty and veteran status.
